Advocacy Program

How To Stay Safe expanded legal services program Fort Lauderdale

Protect Yourself & Plan Ahead for Your Safety

Always have a plan to keep yourself safe. Domestic violence is about control—victims are often kept financially dependent on the abuser and isolated from family and friends. Leaving a domestic violence situation safely takes planning and preparation.

Safety Planning Steps:

  • Involve your children and rehearse safety procedures with them
  • Alert trusted people including school officials, family members, and friends
  • Gather important documents, financial resources, and essential personal items
  • Determine where you will stay once you leave

Destiny's Purpose strongly urges you to explore protective orders and other legal ways of ensuring your physical safety, financial well-being, and the protection of your children.

We Can Help:

Call Destiny's Purpose for assistance with:

  • Safety planning
  • Information about filing charges and navigating the criminal justice system
  • Guidance on divorce, child custody, and child support
  • Referrals for shelter, counseling, and other essential services

Your safety matters. Contact us today for confidential support. legal assistance Fort Lauderdale

Expanded Legal Services Program

While most of Destiny's Purpose clients qualify for traditional legal aid, our Expanded Legal Services Program serves victims who earn too much for legal aid but too little to afford quality, trauma-informed legal representation. Clients in this program help with court costs and fees but are not charged for representation. We believe no victim should be denied quality legal services due to inability to pay.

Eligibility Requirements

Clients must generally meet these criteria (please call to confirm eligibility):

  • Experienced a pattern of physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse by a partner in recent years, or has minor children physically/sexually abused by the intimate partner
  • For divorce filings: One party must have resided in Florida for six months AND in Broward or West Palm Beach County for the preceding three months. We serve residents of these counties regardless of citizenship status
  • Must know the respondent's location (home/work) for legal notification purposes
  • Protective orders are available regardless of income level.

Contact us: Call 1800-852-2641 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or request a callback online. If leaving a message, please indicate the safest time to return your call.
